Tourney ahead

Posted by guido @ 9:53 AM

We started planning the Ultimate hat tournament called Jax Hat a while ago, but a few things are starting to come together and I think I need to start spreading the word. It's gonna be Aug. 5. Go to one of these -- [link] or [link] -- for details.

Julie got a bill marked with Where's George recently, and I just logged it. [link] I haven't received one of those in a while.

Work travel

Posted by Troy @ 7:07 AM

I got up too early for my flight this morning. I'm in San Jose International Airport, using the Wi-Fi. I thought my flight was at 6 a.m., so boarding would be about 5:30 ... but it turns out that is next week's flight. This week my flight does not leave until 7:20 ... so I have some time to sit here and wait.

I pretty much stayed on Eastern time all week and was able to start work at 7 a.m. California time each day, so that was good.

I ate at several good places in Mountain View, Shiva's being my favorite.

When I get home, we are going to see Jamie's baby Hannah, born yesterday. Saturday I'm helping Christopher set up his new MacBook that arrived this week. Sunday we'll go to church and then I'll start packing to head back out here for another four days. Then I'm looking forward to getting back on my East Coast project after that.

Muralists invading

Posted by guido @ 10:44 PM

The Wall Dogs — the muralists who painted a bunch of signs around downtown Lincoln a couple years ago — are going to be doing signs all over downtown Jacksonville this week. One of the signs is going to be right on the side of the newspaper office.

UPDATE, June 22: Took some pictures last night and posted three on Flickr. Took some today, too, but they're still on my camera. Dave, the in charge of the mural on the JJ-C building, has been encouraging me to help paint -- which I'd like to do if I have the time.

UPDATE, June 23: I didn't have to work until the afternoon today, so I joined the Wall Dogs in painting the mural on the side of the newspaper building for about three and a half hours today. I worked on the horse on the left side of the crazy-long mural. I'll be posting a few more photos sometime soon.

Redesign of shirt site

Posted by guido @ 7:33 AM

Threadless did a major redesign this week. It looks pretty neat and there seem to be more features and lots of new shirts. It's the site's anniversary, too, so they're having a sale. (Use that link above and I get some street team points if you buy something.)

Mom and dad treated us to dinner at D'Arcy's Pint last night to celebrate Julie's birthday. Good stuff. The place was packed on a Monday night ... wild.

Ran into Clark from Ultimate at a store we stopped in after dinner. He and a friend were buying swimming goggles and assundry items for his new job working at some sort of summer camp.

Just finished the first disc of the first season of "Entourage."

We played "Karaoke Revolution" for three hours the other night, trying the different games and attempting to unlock new songs. When my mom and dad were in town, we had them try it, too. They might have liked it more if there were songs they knew. We've also discovered the weirdness that is "Warioware."

Josh helped me with the ladder I borrowed from the neighbors (which I think they were borrowing from someone, too) yesterday. There was a little clog of gunk in one of the gutters that I'd been wanting to clear out for some time. Hopefully the gutter won't back up and overflow in that spot anymore.

And speaking of the neighbors, they appear to be selling their house already. There is a sign in their yard that wasn't there yesterday.

3 days early

Posted by Troy @ 5:08 PM

I went to visit my local game store, Game World, this afternoon. I was pleasantly surprised that they were selling the new Nintendo DS Lite! I picked one up. I thought about taking a photo of the size difference between my DS and DS Lite, but there are already so many great comparisons out there that I decided not to.

I really appreciate the brighter screen and the smaller size.

You might have luck finding them at Target or Wal-Mart, the official street day is June 11.

Nintendo DS Game Case

Posted by Troy @ 7:02 PM

I popped into a local video game store while Jantina picked up groceries. I informed the operator that I was looking for a DS game holder /organizer. All the products I'd found before were big and bulky, not fitting for the super small form factor of the carts. He showed me that he uses a simple Case Logic case that was originally intended for digital camera media, but the DS games fit perfectly in the little pouches! I was able to pick one up for myself, and now I'm able to keep my DS games organized too.

Not as trendy as the Smint hack, but this does hold more than 3 games ;)

'Elk's Run' finds a publisher

Posted by guido @ 11:00 PM

The creators of an independent comic series I've been enjoying until their publisher folded -- called "Elk's Run" -- just announced today that they found a new publisher which will be collecting the entire storyline. Yea. [link]

'Bring it,' as Tom would say

Posted by guido @ 11:26 PM

A bunch of athletic college guys challenged my pickup group to an Ultimate game Thursday night. They could clearly run us into the ground, but they didn't really know the fine points of the game, and we won decisively. I think everyone had fun, so I hope a bunch of them come back in the future.

It was Rory's last night before he moves to Seattle, and he got hurt early in the game. Ouch. And it rained pretty much all day -- drizziling while we played until it finally let up, probably around 8.

Mom and Dad are finishing up their vacation and came down Friday morning. They're staying for a couple days. We went out to a big annual garage sale (the one I found my North Face jacket on last year) around and I found some gravity boots ... which I've been wanting to find on a garage sale for years! Now I just need to find a bar to hang from.

For lunch, we had sandwiches and drinks at the coffeehouse downtown, then to the Brickhouse Barbecue downtown for dinner. This was our first time at the Brickhouse and it was pretty good. I'm not a connaisseur of barbecue, for sure, but it seemed good.

We've been playing "Warioware" with Josh and Amanda, and they just bought "Karaoke Revolution" and we played that the other night.

Oh, hey, Troy ... have you seen this yet?

LCHS song

"Lincoln, Lincoln, we are proud of you. Lincoln, Lincoln, we will e'er be true. Following the bright Golden Rule, we get things done without much ado. We're happy, we're snappy when we send our call. Lend your voices one and all. If dear old Abe were here I know just what he'd do; He'd say Lincoln, we're proud of you!"
