Wordiness

I always like to hear about the words added to the dictionary or top words of the year, so I just checked out the top words of the year as decided by Merriam-Webster.Merriam-Webster's Words of the Year 2006
Based on votes from visitors to their site:truthiness (noun)
1 : "truth that comes from the gut, not books" (Stephen Colbert, Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report," October 2005)
2 : "the quality of preferring concepts or facts one wishes to be true, rather than concepts or facts known to be true" (American Dialect Society, January 2006)
My faves of the rest of them are:
2 google
3 decider
5 insurgent
8 sectarian
All are here.
Twice in one day

A group of coworkers decided to go to Applebee's yesterday for lunch, partly because it was Marjorie's birthday recently.I have been putting off going to the new Applebee's restaurant here in town. It's so new that people have been going there in droves to try it out -- and that will likely continue until the newness wears off.
But not only did I end up going yesterday for lunch, but when Mom, Dad and Erin came to town last night and Brickhouse Barbecue was closed, we decided to get Applebee's to go.
Oh, and we went to Guzzardo's Italian Villa in Lincoln on Sunday after mom's choir/symphony concert. I hadn't been there in a long time.Wednesday, December 20, 2006
Holiday plans

Here's the plan, as I understand it: Work tonight at the gallery after work at the newspaper -- Larry might come by for some Xmas shopping and Mom, Dad and Erin are coming down so Erin can check out the gallery. We're planning to celebrate Christmas with Josh and Amanda tomorrow night after work -- Wii, wine and presents. Go to Lincoln after work Friday and make and eat our Christmas meal on Saturday -- Russian food this year (yea for borsht). Open gifts Sunday. Then I'm working Christmas Day; Erin is working at the video store on Christmas Day, too.I'm hoping Troy gets to come check out the gallery sometime while he's in the area.
I've been watching movies. Watched "Ultimate Avengers" recently and "The Magnificent Seven" (great cast) last night. I think my friend Tim Waltrip looks a little like Yul Brenner.Monday, December 18, 2006
Lion King
We had a very eventful weekend! Saturday we went with Jim and Jenn to Animal Kingdom to see Jamie sing as a member of the campfire carolers. Then we headed over to Epcot to do some Christmas shopping in "Japan", though they didn't have what I was looking for. We ate dinner in "Italy" before heading back home. It was a great time!
Sunday we met up with Scott & Jamie, Scott & Aby, and the six of us had dinner at Tuscan Brio before heading out to meet Christopher and experience the Lion King! We had great seats on the floor... we splurged a little, but how often do you get to see such a cool show? The music was spectacular, as were the costumes/puppets. We all really enjoyed the show.
Next Saturday we fly up to Lincoln for Christmas with the family. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone!Thursday, December 14, 2006
Delete sale 2006

EMI had their CD delete sale yesterday. I took a long break from work and went out there. I ended up getting 15 CDs -- several as gifts. Julie went after work and got a few, too, including one duplicate. I was hoping to find an early David Bowie, but I didn't have any luck there. Here are some of the CDs Julie and I got:Frank Black - "Honeycomb"
Turin Brakes - "Ether Song"
Ron Sexsmith - "Cobblestone Runway"
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - "Take Them On On Your Own"
The Ceasars - "39 Minutes of Bliss (In An Otherwise Meaningless World)"
Gomez - "Split the Difference"
Fountains of Wayne - "Out of State Plates"
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan - "The Ultimate N.F.A.K., Vol. 1"
Daft Punk - "Homework"
Beth Orton - "Comfort of Strangers"

Company Party 2006
Friday evening I flew into Orlando from my finished project in Alabama, only to turn around and fly out Saturday afternoon for my company's holiday party. The party was on a boat in Annapolis, MD. Until it was party time though, Jantina and I visited a bunch of small shops and ate lunch at an oyster bar (though neither of us had oysters). We had a good time at the party, visiting with friends and I met a couple of co-workers I had only known by voice previously. The music was a little too loud for visiting at times, but the food was good. Actually everything was a lot better than last year's party. Here is a picture Martin took of Jantina and I at the festivities:

Jantina had checked Sassy into the kenel for the weekend while we were away. Sassy's home now, she really missed us ... but she needs a bath big-time!
Snow-timate

Got to play Ultimate in about three inches of snow today. We only had seven people out, but the field looked like we trampled over almost every inch of the field. Nice to get out and run around after not playing for a couple weeks. It was in the mid-40s, so not too cold, though all our feet were cold by the end. -- Oh, and we all sleded down the hill to the field on our discs. Worked nicely. -- And a few snowballs were thrown.
Watched another movie yesterday: "Cache." Not sure I get the point of it.
Utini got a bath today.
Strotheide: Strotheide is a populated place in Nordrhein-Westfalen, which is a region of Germany. An overview map of the region around Strotheide is displayed here.Saturday, December 09, 2006
Capacity crowd

We had our first capacity crowd at a show at Noir last night. We had to turn people away. They weren't very happy; I guess we got a nasty e-mail about it today. We weren't happy about it, either, of course.
Added some movies to the 2006 movie list recently (such as "Jesus is Magic" and "Freaks.") I'm up to 58 movies for the year and we're getting pretty close to the end of the year. Last year I watched 62, so it looks like I might be able to beat that this year.
Troy and I decided to go ahead and move the Fuzzycouch blog to the new beta version of Blogger. Hopefully we won't notice any hiccups because of it.Monday, December 04, 2006
Complete freedom. Oh, no!

I accidentally let the dogs out the front door this morning without putting their leashes on. Luckily they didn't realize they had gained their complete freedom and decide to take off running. Whew!
Last night, my great-aunt Virginia (on my mom's side) called to say that my great-aunt Mary died. Mary's funeral is Wednesday in LaHarpe, IL.
Yesterday, Julie and I nearly finished our Xmas shopping. There are probably a few things here and there we will still get, but the majority is complete.
Tonight we have a concert scheduled at Noir Art Emporium that I've been looking forward to. The band is J DiMenna and we've been listening to their CD a lot. It's really good. Their sound reminds me, at times, of Michael Penn.Saturday, December 02, 2006
No more pop?!

I just heard that the pop machine I always go to at work is gone. I'm going to go see for myself. ... It's still there, but it's emptied and powerless. I fear the worst. I'm gonna have to buy 24-packs to keep in the fridge and hope people don't steal them.Friday, December 01, 2006
Stars fell on Alabama

I'm in Montgomery, Alabama, this week. Our friends Jeff and Blair are originally from AL so they were able to hook me up with a list of local places to eat, which I really appreciated throughout the week!I ate at Mellow Mushroom Pizza, Sashy's, and East Side Grill. All were pretty good, and I wouldn't have tried them without the recommendations.
The hotel, Homewood Suites, was good too. Free Internet and the TV had s-video (also component inputs, but I didn't bring that set of cables) so my Xbox 360 looked nicer than the typical hotel TV.
I'm sitting in the airport now, hopefully all the flights are OK and I get home tonight. I know the weather is pretty bad in a lot of places right now.
