A
little history:
This game variant was brought into play not only for practice reasons:
Our games are usually two-team, and cover a large area. Naturally, they
run for quite some time, commonly lasting for several hours. (Our longest
one went for a little more than seven hours. Keep in mind that we will
usually be out there hunting and blasting each other for ten to fourteen
hours, sometimes longer). This is fine when everyone is at about the
same skill level and has a chance of surviving for most of the game.
When we started bringing on new players, this game variant was introduced
to give less experienced players a chance to play more than one game.
The set up: Players are divided into 3-4 person
teams. All players activate their sensors (full lives) and go into a
specified area (i.e. they are forced to come across each other). Play
as usual, working in teams.
When a player is tagged out, that player goes to a "dead-zone" (Must
be specified before the games start. Usually the place where initial
teams are divided.) and wait for other tagged out players. When more
tagged out players come, they form a new team of 3-4 (depending on what
the initial team capacity was), reset their sensors, and go back in.
Play continues for a specified time or until the game marshall or coach
calls "End Game!"
Game time: Variable. The games are VERY fast-moving,
so game time will differ according to the endurance of the players.
This is also a good game when you don't know how long you will be playing
(due to weather or whatever).
Pros and Cons (or vice-versa): You don't get
much rest time, and your trigger finger will get tired. However, fast-paced,
hectic, I-don't-know-who's-on-my-team-anymore, games are quite thrilling.
It also trains players to stay alert, pay attention to their surroundings,
and keep track of their team members. If you're gonna play a tournament,
I highly recommend this game.
